Lowrance – a US Army National Guard Veteran and research scientist – to establish partnerships with US Government agencies

July 18, 2023, Baltimore, MD – Early Charm, a company that creates, owns and operates ventures that convert science to revenue, today announced the hiring of Chanda Lowrance – a US Army National Guard veteran and research scientist – as Manager of Innovation Partnerships.

Lowrance, a native of Chicago, previously served in the US Army National Guard as an Automated Logistical Specialist, stationed at Buckley Air Force Base (now Buckley Space Force Base) in Colorado. Lowrance’s duties included maintaining supplies for the battalion and performing military tasks, such as field training and vehicle and weapons maintenance.

Lowrance joins Early Charm after having served as an Early Charm Venture Fellow last year, working on a range of projects for customers involving 3D printing of ceramics.

In her new role, Lowrance’s work will center on implementing Early Charm’s innovation strategy through direct interaction with US Government agencies and related partner companies. As part of this work, Lowrance will connect agency mission-focused research and development needs with Early Charm capabilities in Blue Economy, Advanced Materials, Engineered Products and Drug Design.

“When Chanda was with us last year as an Early Charm Venture Fellow, she was an immediate star with our team and in her work,” said Ken Malone, Executive Officer with Early Charm. “We’re more than glad we have her back to leverage her deep understanding of the government R&D process and how Early Charm can play a vital role in meeting agency needs.”

Lowrance completed her BSc at Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver. She is on track to defend her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry this fall at UMBC with a thesis focusing on nanoparticle synthesis, assembly and isolation.

In addition to her professional and academic work, Lowrance last year was a winner of an entrepreneurship/innovation competition with Base 11 and HeroX. Lowrance’s winning proposal was MicroHaven, a supportive housing option to provide chronically homeless individuals with affordable, permanent residences and services.

Lowrance also won the DNA Diversity Challenge hosted by Regeneron and HeroX, and placed 3rd in the UMBC Cangialosi Business Innovation Challenge.
