Intellectual Property Counsel for Early Charm

July 20, 2022, Baltimore, MD – Early Charm, a company that creates, owns and operates ventures that convert science to revenue, today welcomed Kurt McWilliams – a seasoned Intellectual Property (IP) attorney, polymer scientist and organic chemist – as Director of R&D for Early Charm’s Materic.

McWilliams’ career has centered on managing innovation and R&D projects. In his most recent position, McWilliams served as Market Differentiation Manager with Sasol where he was accountable for driving differentiated products through Sasol’s US commercialization process, developing criteria for project generation and selection.

Over the long course of his career, McWilliams has worked with startups plus mid-sized companies to identify and develop innovative product/process projects for C-suite management approval.

With his science and research background, he’s developed sustainable pipelines of industrial scale, plus value-driven innovations covering global businesses and assets.

As part of his duties with Materic, McWilliams also will serve as IP Counsel for Early Charm. As an experienced patent attorney, McWilliams’ legal work has encompassed the identification, protection and licensing of IP.

In addition, as an inventor, McWilliams has assisted numerous individuals and organizations in understanding patent landscapes, prior art, IP protection strategies and IP valuations.

McWilliams earned a B.Sc. in Polymer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Texas A&M. He later completed a JD with an emphasis in IP and Transactional Law from the South Texas College of Law Houston.
